It is one of the best kept secrets in the world with only the Great Barrier Reef itself having a bigger species list and that only in a far greater expanse!
The marine protected area in Watamu is also recognized internationally as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Park is also home to three species of sea turtle who also nest on the Marine Park beaches, whale shark ( spotted occasionally) and dozen of marine species. Some of the more commonly seen fish include of course the parrot fish, whose digestion of the coral reefs over the millennia, have produced the white sand beach itself. Angelfish, groupers, file fish, lion fish and snappers are just a handful of the easily seen species within this superb, brightly colored underwater world. At around -1:00pm you will arrive at Sudi island where you will receive a warm welcome to the island followed by a little entertainment from the natives. The captain and his crew will then quickly start preparing for where they will grill and serve fresh and delicious sea food with varieties like ; lobsters, king fish, barracuda, and crabs etc(chicken is available for those who don’t eat seafood)..After lunch you can choose to take a canoe ride into mangrove forest on the island with a guide and learn a little history about the island and the creatures found there. Day 4 : MALINDI DAY TRIP
Pick up from hotel after breakfast. Our driver will drive you to Gede ruins, these are the remains of a Swahili town, typical of most towns along the East African Coast. It traces its origin in the twelfth century but was rebuilt with new town walls in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This rebuilding is connected with the emigration of many citizens of Kilwa to Mombasa, Malindi and other places along the coast. It comprises of a conglomeration of mosques; a magnificent palace and houses all nestled in 45 acres of primeval forest.
You will then visit the Portuguese Chapel, Vasco da Gama pillar and the Malindi Museum where you will get to see and learn about the history of the town, the people and their culture. You will have your lunch in Malindi before visiting the Hell’s Kitchen Canyon. This is about 1hr 15minutes drive. The locals have named it ‘Nyari’ which is Kigiriama for a depression. The depression is ever expanding because of erosion. It was once a great sandstone ridge scrapped by wind, torrents and floods into a series of jagged crimson gorges. The craggy gullies and valleys smoulder with sun producing a flaming mirage. It reveals a light mixture of pink, yellow, white and dominant crimson. It is a site to behold.
You will dropped back to your resort for dinner and overnight.
