OVERVIEW
This overland safari from Nairobi to Mombasa offers a rich and diverse journey through some of Kenya’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife destinations. Beginning in Amboseli National Park, you’ll experience breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and encounter large herds of elephants across open plains. The route then takes you to the rugged beauty of Tsavo West National Park, known for its volcanic hills, lava flows, and crystal-clear Mzima Springs. From there, you’ll continue to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private conservancy offering intimate wildlife encounters and the chance to stay at the famous Salt Lick Lodge. Next is Tsavo East National Park, home to the legendary red elephants and vast savannah landscapes dotted with baobabs and bisected by the Galana River. Day 1: Nairobi – Amboseli
Pick up from your Nairobi hotel or Airport in the morning and drive to Amboseli National Park. The drive will be 4 and a half hours to the main gate. Amboseli, which is famous for its scenery with a backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, which dominates the landscape and open plains. You will arrive with more game drive, proceeding to your lodge for check-in and lunch, and a short rest. Later afternoon game drive in the park, Dinner, and overnight.
Day 2: Amboseli – Tsavo west
After an early breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive to Tsavo West National Park, a scenic journey of about 3 hours through the beautiful Chyulu Hills region. Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and a short res.In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in Tsavo West — known for its dramatic landscapes, rolling volcanic hills, and diverse wildlife including elephants, lions, giraffes, and rhinos. Visit the famous Mzima Springs, a crystal-clear oasis fed by underground streams from Mount Kilimanjaro, where you can spot hippos and crocodiles.Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the tranquil wilderness sounds of Tsavo.
Day 3: Tsavo West – Taita hill Sanctuary
After breakfast, check out from your lodge and enjoy a morning game drive as you exit Tsavo West National Park. Proceed to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private reserve located adjacent to Tsavo West, with an approximate drive of 1.5 to 2 hours. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge — often the iconic Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa offering spectacular views of the surrounding plains and wildlife at the nearby waterholes. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive within the sanctuary, home to elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, and a wide variety of bird species. Enjoy the unique experience of watching animals up close.Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight, as you unwind in the serene and picturesque setting of Taita Hills.
Day 4: Taita Hills Sanctuary – Tsavo East National Park
After an early breakfast, enjoy a short morning game drive within Taita Hills Sanctuary before checking out. Depart for Tsavo East National Park, a scenic drive of about 3 hours via the Voi Gate.Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and a brief rest. In the afternoon, set out for an exciting game drive in Tsavo East, Kenya’s largest national park, famous for its vast open plains and the iconic “red elephants” dusted with volcanic soil. You may also spot lions, cheetahs, zebras, and herds of buffalo along the Galana River.Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight, enjoying the peaceful wilderness ambiance under a starlit African sky.
Day 5: Tsavo East National Park – Mombasa
After an early breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive as you exit Tsavo East National Park, capturing the last glimpses of wildlife and the beautiful savannah scenery.Proceed on your journey to Mombasa, driving through the scenic landscapes of Voi and the rolling plains of the Taru Desert. The drive takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, arriving in Mombasa around midday.Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your beach hotel or Mombasa Airport, marking the end of your unforgettable Kenyan safari adventure.
